excellent 4 track vinyl with fantastic deep house. it gets started with >spring loop<, a track that looks to its name both for feeling and production sense. of course that sensuous vocal sample that gets drawn through it wouldnt do the job on its own, but rau knows that too and surrounds it with a warm, humid bassline and his always changing and snapping drums to keep it in the pocket for the whole 5 minutes. even though the groove on the a1 is already heavy for him, he goes deeper yet with >swearing (vinyl version)< that jamaican vocal is something so classic that we wont spoil it here, but the pumping house beat and piano stabs he winds around it give even more poignancy to the lyrical substance… we are pretty sure that by the time he finally echoes the vocal out late in the track there will be some hands in the air for this one

midnight marauder, is rolling techno fuzzing with a teetering bass line, reggae sirens and jamaican patois adlibs. typical of the two involved, its decidedly grey area - impossible to categorise if you tried. one thing about this track is certain though – its primed for peak time on the dancefloor, with swung drum rhythms and a snaking acid line that wont quit.

cd in 2 panels digipack with spot varnish and poster booklet. les fils du calvaire are a francophone trio from the electronic chanson francaises new wave. before adopting their current name 3 years ago, the band was called dop, and already has a solid background in the music production. indeed, les fils du calvaire were also used to being among the best hip hop beatmakers of france providing rappers such as oxmo puccino and composing for mythical jamaican figure (horace andy & johnny osborne). after a first noteworthy single rester avec toi, they are releasing an album in line with the pioneers of the chanson fran�aise, adding a subtle note of humor and derision. jointly created with ash workman (metronomy, christine and the queens), fils de is the perfect balance between french tradition and modernity.

after retiring from the jamaican police force arthur duke reid established his treasure isle liquor store and sound system in pink lane kingston and was crowned the undisputed king of sound and blues in 1956, 57 and in 58. the duke then moved into record production and after relocating the store to 33 bond street, he then built a recording studio on top of his new premises in 1966. according to the musicians and singers the wooden construction of the treasure isle recording studio gave the music a distinctive warmth and richness and with resident engineer byron baron/smithy smith at the controls, the sound of a bond street recording was immediately recognisable.
